The Huntsville Area MPO has released the Final 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), also known as TRiP2050. This Final version of the LRTP updates the Draft copy that was approved by the Huntsville Area MPO Policy Board at its December 4, 2024 meeting. The draft document was sent to ALDOT and FHWA for review. The Final LRTP was adopted by the MPO Policy Board at its March 19, 2025 meeting.
The MPO held several public involvement meetings in February 2025 to give the public an opportunity to comment on the plan in addition to the online survey. The meetings were held at the following locations and times:
- Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 3-5PM: North Huntsville Public Library (3011 Sparkman Dr. NW Huntsville, AL 35810)
- Monday, February 10, 2025 from 3:30-5:30PM: Madison Public Library (142 Plaza Blvd. Madison, AL 35758)
- Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 4-6PM: South Huntsville Public Library (7901 Bailey Cove Rd. SE Huntsville, AL 35802)

Informational boards about the LRTP (see “2050 LRTP Summary” below) were available for viewing at the libraries for at least a week after each meeting. MPO staff incorporated comments from ALDOT, FHWA, the public and member jurisdictions in the Final 2050 LRTP. The public had chances to comment on the final document prior to consideration by the Policy Board at the regularly-scheduled Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) and Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC) meetings to be held on March 17th and March 19th.
The Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is a road map of transportation projects, both funded and visionary, for the next 25 years in the Huntsville MPO study area. In order for a transportation project to get funding, it must be included in the LRTP. A new LRTP is released by the MPO staff every five years, but is amended as projects warrant.
