The Huntsville MPO recently participated in a required Transportation Management Area (TMA) Certification Review initiated by the Federal Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Works Administration and Federal Transit Administration divisions. TMA Certification Reviews are performed approximately every four years and are required for TMA’s with a population over 200,000 (Huntsville reached this milestone in 2000). It is used to determine if an MPO’s planning process, in coordination with other regional agencies, follows the “3-C” (Cooperative, Comprehensive, Continuing) method required by Federal regulations.
