May is National Bike Month!

Check out all these great events going on in and around Huntsville for National Bike Month! 

April 30 thru Sept: Ride-A-Metric (RAM) Series by the Spring City Cycling Club (SCCC)  The SCCC kicks off its 13th annual Ride A Metric (RAM) training series on Sat, April 30, 2016. This weekly training series will help participants progress from neighborhood or casual riders to cyclists who are confident about riding on the road. This program is intended to prepare riders for the SCCC All You Can Eat Metric Century (100 kilometers) on September 17, but is also an excellent development program for those who wish to ride shorter distances on the road.

May 4: Bike to School Day (Check website for a Huntsville location)

May 6-7: CYCLING ESSENTIALS Class taught at the Wellness Center Jones Valley Huntsville Hospital by LAB* instructors. Please enroll a few days in advance so you can sign registration, pay and get your bicycle and gear ready. Cost is $65 per student; discounts may apply. May 8: Cyclofemme 10 am. A women’s Mother’s Day Ride from the Flint River Greenway parking lot. RCCB ride led by Bunny/Holly Hansen. Two distances: a metric and a shorter loop about 45 miles at an average 15 mph pace.

May 14: 7th Annual Huntsville Mayor’s Bike Ride – 10:30 am, Campus No. 805, 2620 Clinton Ave. This 5-mile ride held in conjunction with Healthy Huntsville Super Saturday events.

May 16–20: Bike to Work Week*

May 17: 15th Annual Director’s Tour d’Arsenal – 5 pm, Tuesday after work on RSA. MARS Team Redstone Alliance for Cycling (MTRAC) hosts a FREE ride on RSA with 19-25 mile options.

Ride Information: NASA Employees  or  Non-NASA employees Ride starts and ends at: MSFC Activity Bldg, 4316, parking lot, Digney Rd, 5 pm sharp. A signed waiver is required.All adult MSFC or RSA personnel and escorted guests are welcome to participate. Helmets and bright reflective vests are mandatory on the Arsenal; front and rear bike lights are recommended. May 18: Ride of Silence, 7 pm worldwide, please arrive by 6:45. A silent ride for everyone wanting to honor fallen cyclists. Gateway Greenway parking at Cleveland and Monroe. The distance is about 10 miles at a slow pace.

May 20: Bike to Work Day* – Meet 7 am at Star Market in 5 Points to ride to work on RSA (escorted by an experienced bike commuter)
